This important celebration on 14 July, represents freedom, equality and fraternity and commemorates the 1790 Fête de la Fédération. This festive occasion is a celebration for French communities around the world.
The "Bastille" was a jail in Paris, disaffected at the time of it being taken by the people of Paris, which was on the 14th of July 1789.
Although this event in itself was quite insignificant at the time, it marked the beginning of the Revolution, and later became the day adopted for celebration of the French National day, as a symbol of "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite".
Bastille Day is celebrated worldwide by people of all nationalities.
